A Letter from PGAV Creative Writer A.D. Gladu
For me, it’s all about belonging.
Events create community. Everyone on my block feels connected when we talk about the gas line that blew one summer and scared our pants off at 2 a.m. Our shared confusion and fear for one another’s well-being knit us together.
Shared experiences forge emotionally-charged links between us. The stronger the emotion, the stronger the link. Just take a room full of people who identify as The Silent Generation, and watch them connect by posing the question, “Where were you when JFK was shot?”
Well-produced live events create their own communities. A colleague recently told me that it is considered a privilege to attend a “no-fly show” for the Broadway musical Wicked. I can relate because I know I’ve felt lucky to see certain performers (brag: original cast of Ragtime!) or hear a high note sung with such transcendental perfection that the entire audience took a breath in unison.
At PGAV, we focus our talents on creating powerful yet unrepeatable moments of time. These moments can happen in an amphitheater, in a tree, in a hallway, anywhere you can have an experience—which is everywhere.
Over the next few weeks, Destinology will explore the ins and outs of a variety of live events, and the impact they can have on your guests as individuals and your destination as a whole. We will scrutinize storytellers, analyze what makes WWE so popular, be surprised by museum pop-ups, and challenge ourselves to craft messages that everyone can experience. Along the way we will share personal case studies and pose questions to those who are rightly called “experts.”
Please join us—belong with us—as we experience the impact of monster trucks, the kick of a dance, and the catharsis of tears. Together we will forge a community of curiosity.
